Edmar Castaneda Phoenix Concert reviews
Matt & Chris were great, but the sound was not
Matt Maher was unbelievably awesome in this concert. His musical talents on vocals, guitar, and piano, as well as his female back-up who sang and played guitar, and the drummer who played a cajon and small percussion (not the drum set), blended for amazing sound that would have been as great in your living room as it was in this arena. I am downloading his album because his performance was that outstanding. Best performer I have seen all year, hands down. I'd pay a premium price to see Matt again in an acoustic show.
Overall, this concert was very good. Edmar Castaneda's work was good, but the sound system was too loud, especially on the bass line. It destroyed the overall blend of the music and really ruined some of the songs. You could feel the bass in your chairs all over the arena. As a former DJ, I love good loud music when appropriate. But poorly mixed music that is too loud detracts from the performer. It made me think that Chris must have some hearing loss, so he compensates for it by having the bass turned up so you can feel it. It wasn't appropriate for his music.
One other item: Chris brought his Pastor with him to give us a sermon. We saw a number of people leave during it, and they didn't come back. I know Chris wants to inspire everyone, and his Pastor was dynamic, but the sermon was too long.
